Published on Saturday, September 16, 2017
Many of you might not be interested in the topic but I am writing this study plan after getting dozens of requests from my readers and followers who failed in many competitive exams.
IBPS PO 2017 Study plan

I wrote this article for all the students who are wasting their money and time in wrong strategies, methods and resources. Many of you might not agree with my strategies, I will be happy to edit this post. Give me your suggestions in the comments section.

Resources

Useful resources

  • The Hindu and Indian Express - Best study material for English language. Read Editorial page everyday.
  • GK Digest, a monthly online magazine for GK
  • Online test series - Start taking mock tests, 2 weeks before the exam. Remember that Test series is a tool to boost your self-confidence. Never take a test series in the beginning of your exam preparations.
  • Various useful Facebook pages

Waste resources

  • Books by BSC publications and Kiran Prakashan. BSC always try to write thousands of shortcut techniques, learning all those techniques is not possible. Let's take an example of M.Tyra's Quicker Maths, he shared many Vedic maths tricks in first chapters but it won't improve your score at all. Avoid it at any cost.
  • Model papers by Arihant. They are outdated!
  • All the books that are useful for CAT, because CAT is still harder than Bank exams. While in bank exams you need Speed!
  • Printed magazines - I don't find anything interesting in any printed magazine for bank exams.
  • Avoid Word Power Made Easy. It is a good book but at the same time, it's lengthy.

Where to Start

English

  • Start reading The Hindu or Indian Express from Day 1. This is the most important part of preparations.
  • Reading comprehensions are most important part of English section. RCs test your reading speed and grasping ability. While in an exam there can be RCs from sports, fiction, nonfiction, economics or even history. You should be comfortable with any topic. I shared tricks to solve RCs here. Download free RC workbook.
  • If you don't know the basic grammar rules then don't feel ashamed of reading a VIIIth NCERT. It's better to improve than to avoid.
  • Cloze test is the simplest part of the exam. Never skip this part. It takes a couple of days to practice this part. It brings you 5-10 marks in the exam.
  • Learning a Vocabulary list is important from examination point of view. I upload one Vocabulary quiz every day, it's a fun way to improve your vocabulary. If you are looking for a boring way, then download Vocabulary List here.

Quantitative Aptitude

  • Most of you might be spending 90% of your time in preparation of this section.
  • Start your preparations from scratch. Even if you think everything is simple. You need to be in the top 1% strata so learn it properly. This section will take around 40-50 days
  • Practice makes a man perfect. You heard this many times before, it's time to think of it!
  • There are just 15 chapters and it's all about learning a few dozen of logics. Rest depends upon your problem-solving speed.
  • Data interpretation is an important part. Make sure you solve kind of DI set, that's it! Nothing else for DI.

Reasoning

The biggest problem that students feel is that they don't give time to this section. Cutoff remains really low for this section.

Many students face problem in solving Circular Seating Arrangement sets. Click the click to read the right strategy.

Syllogism is an important part of this section. I have a trick here. Many of you might be already using that.

Marks rich parts of this sections

General Awareness

  • Read previous 6 months GK Digest
  • Read Current affairs updates everyday and take GK Quiz daily
  • Download and read GK Digest every month. If possible get print outs and read it 2-3 times.
  • Check your GK with Current affairs question bank. It's a great way to revise current affairs.
  • Continue above steps till IBPS PO VI exam, I don't think anything else is required for GK section
Download previous 6 months Digests.

Key to Success

  1. Pick right study material. This is the foundation for best preparation plan.
  2. If you find a very easy on first look, don't continue. Get a better book.
  3. Don't solve previous because level of difficulty is increasing day by day.
  4. You can never crack a bank exam without reading an English Newspaper daily.
  5. Instead of joining a coaching center, make a study group.
  6. Have patience. It's normal to fail in first attempt.

Update - In this article, I openly criticized many well-known books. I personally feel that these books don't help a student to improve his/her score within a time span of 2-3 months.
