Data interpretation is the most scoring and time-consuming section in IBPS and other competitive examinations. Today I am sharing quick estimation techniques to solve Data interpretation questions:-

As you can see there is an increase of 5 tonnes in production both wheat and rice production every year.

10% of 50 = 5

10% of 70 = 7

So the answer should 2006.

In the above example, you can find the average of above number in just 5 seconds:-

7800 ( 14 +29 + 108 + 22 + 120/5 ) = 7800 + 58.6 = 7858.6

I always try to find answers by approximation, in my mind, I calculated answer 7860. Try it yourself.

Let me make this simple for you.

1% of 21428 = 214

2% of 21428 = 428

0.1% of 21428 = 21

For me, the answer should be around 2.2%

## Visual Estimation

Give a look to this diagram**Now check this:-****- Red bars states wheat production state and Green bars states rice production.**__Example__**- In which year percentage increase Wheat production was highest?**__Question__As you can see there is an increase of 5 tonnes in production both wheat and rice production every year.

10% of 50 = 5

10% of 70 = 7

So the answer should 2006.

## Finding averages

Many times in Data Interpretation, questions are asked to find the average of many big numbers. As all these numbers are from the same graph, there is a high probability that these number will be close to each other. Take a look at following visual example:-7800 ( 14 +29 + 108 + 22 + 120/5 ) = 7800 + 58.6 = 7858.6

## Solve the fractions quickly

Learn the value of fractions in percentages. Please read Time and work chapter in my previous post in which I explained via a table.## Faster calculations

The only thing that you require to score well in data interpretation questions is the calculation speed. Try to find tricks and shortcuts. You can find multiplication tricks from my previous post.**Let's take an example :- How much 468 of 21428 ?**

Let me make this simple for you.

1% of 21428 = 214

2% of 21428 = 428

0.1% of 21428 = 21

For me, the answer should be around 2.2%

There are tonnes of such techniques which makes calculations easy. No teacher is going to teach techniques in the class. You need to learn them with practice.

Also, Ideally in the same first question if you take 10% of 70 (maximum value of wheat production) among all the years, then answer should be 2008. Still Unable to figure out, what's the trick there.

ReplyDelete10% of 50 = 5 it happened in 2006, and now 10% of 55 is 5.5 but it is jus 55+5= 60 not 60.5~ 5.5(<10) so it is try only at 55....

ReplyDeleteRamandeep sir wanted you to think on the following line: % increase in 2006 is 10%......after that even if we take the highest no., i.e. 70, its 10% needs to be 7....but change in production is always 5....meaning that production is less than 10% always.....thus 10% increase is highest and that is in 2006.

However, this isn't the correct approach and it's too clumsy.

Easy one is:

there is an increment of 5 every time. Thus, out of 5/50, 5/55, 5/60, 5/65.....(and so on even if there were more years) obviously due to constant numerator, the fraction with smallest denominator will be largest.

This one thing, if strikes at once to you, shall make the answer simple.

Delete2005 is definitely not the answer , to find out growth % in 2005 you must know the weat production in 2004 which is not given

And now you can see the difference between last year and present year production is 5 in all the cases

Game of fraction

For maximum % growth you must multiply 5 with a fraction which is greater than 1 ,ie 100/55...I hope it's fine now

For bar-graph question, the logic given is wrong.............think this way:

ReplyDeleteevery year increment is of 5....thus: 5/50, 5/55, 5/60........out of these, one with smallest denominator is the largest fraction as numerator is constant for all. Simple!

what does this mean?? answer should be 2005, 2006 or 2007.

ReplyDeleteI think it depends on the option.....but without options, I check its divisibly till one digit n those who are squares of some number (such as 4 and 9)...I found it to be divisible by 9 and when you divide it by 9...the number become 676...which is the square root of 26...I learnt square root till 30....it took barely a minute or less

i.e. 10% of 50 and add it to the 50 which will be 55

the same thing when you applied for the rest year you will get that up coming year have the increment of less than 10%
