How to start IBPS SO Interview Preparations

Published on Wednesday, March 05, 2014
As I have promised to provide study material for preparation of IBPS Specialist Officers. Today I am going to make a road map, explaining basics which will help you in starting your preparation and help you know how IBPS interviews are different from any other interview.

Before doing anything, I recommend you to read IBPS Interview Series Index.

Collect study material

First  thing you need to do is - Get a year book. You can find my recommended year book in books section. There is no need to join any coaching institute for interview preparation. Interviewers are going to ask basic questions about general economy and political situation of the country and your locality. Yes! you heard it right. You need to learn more about your locality. Most frequent question are -
  • What is the population of your city ?
  • Who is the mayor of your city ?
  • Where is DTO office in your city ?

Read your course basics

SO interviews are generally different from PO as interviewers already have a path to to walk so they never ask general questions. If you are appearing for Finance Officers interviews, most probably experienced finance professionals will conduct the interviews. Most common topics will be :-
  • Accounting and Auditing standards
  • How to decide depreciation rate ? Justify your answers.
  • Various sections of Company law.
  • Ethics in financial services sector
  • Insurance and Mutual funds working and regulations
For Chartered Accountants, these are course basics whereas for MBA(Finance) things are going to be very difficult. CAs are going to fetch high marks in interviews.

Start reading newspapers

It's time to start reading a newspaper daily. Never rely on shortcuts like as "GK Capsules" as ebook won't help you make your own opinion on a particular topics. Read in depth on every topic. Interviewers are not going to ask MCQs. Every answer is recorded on papers.

Weight-age is give to right answers, qualifications and work experience in a PSU. Work experience in private sector is not considered. So in case you have a private company work experience, through it in bin. It's going to impact your interviews negatively.

Interviewers are expecting a candidates who don't have any other option and who is sure to join. Never reveal that you were getting a higher salary package and you need a PSU job for job security or for lower working hours. They hate such answers.

In case you have any query, comment below.

I request you to share this post on Facebook and Twitter.
