Politics
- The Finance Ministry of India ordered forensic audit of UCO Bank after finding irregularities in non-performing accounts. UCO Bank is 4th bank that is named for forensic audit. The other three banks are Dena Bank, Oriental Bank of Commerce and Syndicate Bank.
- A domain called ‘Dot Bharat’ launched by the Government of India to connect people with social media. This domain will give the information to the people in their regional languages but initially, eight languages are included in the domain are Hindi, Bodo, Dogri, Konkani, Maithili, Marathi, Nepali and Sindhi.
- Two countries Israel and Hamas agreed to Egyptian ceasefire proposal for unlimited time. Few days back, the proposal was refused by Hamas.
- Indian Air Force and Russian Federation Air Force started Indo-Russian Air Force Exercise called Avia Indra - 2014 which is first Indo-Russian aerial exercise between the two countries.
- The Jewish Centre, Chabad House oftenly called as Nariman House reopened after 6 years. The Centre was remained closed after the 26/11 terror attack in the year November 2008.
Business and Economy
- Cox & Kings Ltd., a travel company got the contract of Deccan Odyssey, a luxury train service of Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation for the term of 5 years.
- Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd. signed the deal with BSNL for sharing the towers. Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd. is the first telecom company to get the unified licence for all the 22 service areas in all over India.
- C.S. Verma became the first President of Indian Steel Association, the association launched by domestic steel producer of India. The aim of this association is to work towards transforming the Indian steel industry as the global leader.
- Air India will sell tickets for Rs.100 excluding tax on the eve of Air India Day i.e. on 27th August 2014, the day on which the Indian Airlines merged with Air India 7 years back i.e. in the year 2007.
