  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi concluded the visit to Nepal on 4th August, 2014. This is the first bilateral meeting between India and Nepal in past 17 years. During this visit, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi announced to give help to Nepal for development.
  • On 4th August, 2014 completed the 100 years of First World War which was started on 4th August, 1914 and was ended on 11th November 1918. First World War also called as ‘THE GREAT WAR’.
  • The Ministry of Human Resource Development set up a four member committee to review and analyse the status of University Grants Commission. UGC Chairman Shri Hari Gautam will be the Head of this committee.
  • The closing ceremony of 20th Commonwealth Games, 2014 held at Hampden Park Stadium, Glasgow, Scotland. The next 21st Commonwealth Games, 2018 will he held in Gold Coast in Australia. India has successful to win 15 Gold Medals and total 64 medals. The 15 Indian Gold Medalists are Yogeshwar Dutt in Men’s wrestling 65 kg freestyle, Sushil Kumar in Men’s wrestling 75 kg, Amit Kumar in Men’s wrestling 57 kg, Babita Kumar in Women’s wrestling, 55 kg freestyle, Vinesh Phogat in Women’s wrestling 48 kg, Satish Sivalingam in Men’s weightlifting 77 kg, Sukhen Dey in Men’s weightlifting 56 kg category, K Sanjita Chanu in Women’s weightlifting 48 kg category, Vikas Gowda in Men’s Discus Throw, Jitu Rai in Men’s Shooting 50 m Pistol, Rahi Sarnobat in Women’s Shooting 25 m pistol, Apurvi Chandela in Women’s shooting 10 m Air Rifle, Abhinav Bindra in Men’s 10 m Air Rifle, Dipika Pallikal In Women’s Squash, Joshana Chinappa in Women’s Squash and Parupalli Kashyap in Men’s Badminton.
  • Parupalli Kashyap became the first shuttler in Men’s singles to win a Gold Medal in Commonwealth Games in the last 32 years.
  • Sabine Lisicki created the world record by fastest serve in Women’s Tennis. She is from Germany which country recently won the FIFA World Cup 2014.
  • The World’s superstar Usain Bolt won Gold Medal in Commonwealth Games, 2014 in men’s 4 × 100 m relay. He is from Jamaica. Usain Bolt broke many records which were set by various athletes.
  • HDFC (Housing Development Finance Corporation) is fast growing private sector bank who will open a school in Gurgaon. This will be the first financial organization who taken this type of step.

  • According to the Bloomberg Billionaire’s Index, Shri Dilip Singhvi, the founder and MD of Sun Pharmaceutical Industries topped the gloabal rich list with $17.2 billion. Sun Pharmaceutical Industries is the fastest growing healthcare company.
  • 6th C-17 Globemaster – III launched in Indian Air Force. This success of Indian Air Force wil enhance the Operational Potential of itself.
  • In the 6th Brics Summit, 3 bilateral agreements are signed between Indian and Brazil. Three bilateral agreements are MOU on Cooperation in the field of environment, Agreement onn Space, MOU on Cooperation in consultation mechanism. 7th Brics Summit will be held in Russia.
  • India became the first country to ratify the Marrakesh Treaty. This treaty will work for blind people, visually impaired peopoe and other disable persons and will give equal rights and opportunities of education and employment for blind people.
  • Indian and World Bank signed MOUs for URWSSP (Uttarakhand Rural Water Suply and Sanitation Project), UDWDP (Uttarakahand Decentralized Watershed Development Project), MRWSSP (Maharashtra Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Programme). It is need to well known to you that watter supply, santitation and decentralization are the keys to develop any nation.
