Business and Economy
  • On 13th September 2014, State Bank of India, one of the largest public sector banks of India celebrated 150 years of its operations in Sri Lanka. The bank is in working since the year 1864 in Sri Lanka. Initially, Bank of Hindustan established the branch in Colombo, Sri Lanka after that the bank taken over by Bank of Madras then merged with Imperial Bank of India and with the passage of time in the year 1955, the bank became State Bank of India and generally known as SBI. Presently, P. Pradeep Kumar is the CEO of State Bank of India.
  • Reserve Bank of India decided to fix the upper age limit of 70 years for MD and CEO in private sector banks under the provisions of Companies Act, 2013 u/S 196(3). Now, the persons between the ages 21 to 70 can serve as MD and CEO in private sector banks.
  • ‘Android One’, the operating system programme launched by Google. Google partners to sell affordable yet feature packed Android Phones under this programme. Presently, the CEO of Google is Larry Page.

Sports

  • H.S. Prannoy (Full name Prannoy Haseena Sunil Kumar), also known as Prannoy Kumar, Indian Badminton Player won Indonesian Masters Grand Prix Gold after defeating Firman Abdul Kholik of Indonesia. This is his career’s maiden Grand Prix Title.
  • Sabine Lisicki won Hong Kong Open after defeating Karolina Pliskova. This is her first WTA title after the gap of three years.

Awards

  • K.J. Yesudas (Full Name Kattassery Joseph Yesudas) awarded with Life Time Achievement Award by the Government of Kerala. He is famous playback singer.
