Sports
- The International Cricket team of Zimbabwe defeated the strongest team Australia for the first time in last 31 years in one day match. The match was played at Harare Sports Club in Zimbabwe and Man of the Match gone to Elton Chigumbura, the captain of Zimbabwe team.

- Carolina Marin won World Badminton Championship and became the first Spaniard to win this championship. Carolina Marin defeated the world’s No.1 badminton player Li Xuerui.
- Anita Wlodarczyk of Poland broke the world record at International Stadionfest Berlin Athletics meet in Women’s Hammer Throw with the throw of 79.58 metres. The previous record set by Betty Heidler with the throw of 79.428 metres.
- Jaipur Pink Panthers won the inaugural title of Star Sports Pro Kabaddi League, the League was launched by International Kabaddi Federation and Marshal Sports Pvt. Ltd. jointly recently.
Politics
- The Legislative Assembly of Jammu and Kashmir passed the ‘Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill 2014’. The Bill will provide 5% reservation to the Pahari speaking people of the State of Jammu and Kashmir in government jobs.
- The State of Andhra Pradesh proposed the Metro Rail project for the tourist temple town Tirupati. India’s first metro train was started in Kolkata in the year 1984 and first mono rail was started in Mumbai recently.
Awards
- Akkineni Nageswara Rao, the famous Telugu actor became the first Indian actor to be honoured with postage stamp by the US Post Service. He is generally known as the nick name ‘ANR’. He received the Padma Vibhushan award, the highest civilian award of India and also bagged the Dadasaheb Phalke award.
- The oldest Nalanda University started its first session on 01st September 2014 at Rajgir, Patna i.e. the Buddhist pilgrim town. School of Ecology and Environmental Studies and School of Historical Studies set by the University. The Chairman of the University is Amartya Sen, the noble prize winner in Economics.
- India’s big pharmaceutical company ‘Wockhardt’ became the first Indian Pharmaceutical Company to receive the Qualified Infectious Disease Product (QIDP) status.
Deaths
- Sattiraju Lakshminarayana, the renowned Telugu filmmaker died on 31st August 2014. Oftenly, the people called him as Bapu. He received Padma Shri Award in the year 2013. Apart from this, he received many more awards organized by national and state organizations.

- Japan will sell the sea plane namely US-2 since the World War-II to India.
Business and Economy
- United Bank of India declared ‘wilful defaulters’ to its promoter Vijay Mallya.
