- Marvan Atapattu, former Captain of Sri Lankan Cricket Team appointed as Head Coach of Sri Lanka Cricket Team. With this appointment, Marvan Atapattu became first full-time local Coach in last 15 years, the last one was Roy Dias in the year 1999.
Politics
- UN Climate Change Summit held in New York to put the planet towards reversing global warming. The next UN Climate Change Summit will be held in Paris, France in the next year.
- The concert namely ‘Ehsaas-e-Kashmir’ organized by German Embassy to raise the funds for the flood affected people in the State of Jammu and Kashmir recently.
- The new record set by Norwegian trio by travelling 19 countries just within 24 hours. The record set up by Gunnar Garfors, Tay-young Pak and Oyvind Djupvik. The previous record was of 17 countries.
Awards
- Govind Mishra, the renowned Hindi Author awarded with Saraswati Samman 2013 for his Novel ‘Dhool Paudhon Par’. He is 2nd Hindi Author to be conferred with the award, the first one was Harivansh Rai Bachchan in the year 1991.
- Edward Snowden, Alan Rusbridger, Asma Jahangir, Basil Fernando and Bill McKibben are awarded with Right Livelihood Award 2014, the award generally known as ‘Alternative Nobel’ which is the International award.
Science and Technology
- India became first country to enter Mars orbit as ISRO’s Mars Orbiter Mission. The mission took off from the earth on 05th November 2013.
- Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) became 4th agency in all over the world to have successfully executed a mission to Mars. The other three agencies are :
- NASA (United States)
- Roscosmos (Russia)
- European Space Agency (ESA) of European Consortium
- NASA’s Mariner 4 (United States) was the first successful mission in the year 1965.
