  • The 15th edition of bilateral exercise by the Indian Coast Guard and its Japanese counterpart titled ‘Sahayog - Kaijin 2016’ has begun off the coast of Chennai, Tamil Nadu in the Bay of Bengal.

British actor Alan Rickman passes away

  • British actor Alan Rickman passed away in London, England. He was suffering from cancer.His first big break in acting career was in 1985 as the Vicomte de Valmont in the stage production of Les Liaisons Dangereuses. 

Nag anti-tank missile successful test fired

  • Anti-tank missile Nag was successfully test fired at Mahajan Field Firing Range in Rajasthan. It is fire-and-forget anti-tank missile. HeliNa is a helicopter-launched version of Nag missile.

  • Indian Army Day is being observed every year on 15 January in India. This year it will be the 68th Indian Army Day.

HRD Ministry inaugurates permanent campus of IISER in Thiruvananthapuram

  • Union Government has inaugurated the first phase of permanent campus of the Indian Institute of Science Education & Research (IISER) at Vithura in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. 
  • It was inaugurated by Union Human Resources Development (HRD) Minister Smriti Irani in presence of Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy.
