On 1 January, 2016 Atul Sobti took charge as CMD of state - owned power equipment makeer BHEL (Bharat Heavy Electrical Limited) for 5 years period. Union Government approvied his appointement as CMD of BHEL in September 2015.

India won South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) championship for 7th time. In the final match, India defeated Afghanistan by 2 - 1. Jeje Lalpekhlua and Sunil Chhetri had scored goals for India. Sunil Chhetri is the captain of Indian Team.

On 2 January 2016, The Government of Telangana launched e- Vahan Bima Scheme. The scheme was launched by Information Technology Minister K T Rama Rao in the presence of T S Vijayan, Chairman of IRDA (Insurance Regulatory Development Authority. Telegana became the first state in the country to legally accept insurance policy in digital form with the launch of this scheme. The main purpose of scheme is to issue motor insurance policy in digital form.

On 1 January 2016, Javed Ahmed appointed as Director General of Police (DGP) of Uttar Pradesh. Javed Ahmed is a 1984 batch Indian Police Service Officer. Prior to appointment of DGP, he was serving as the Director General of Railways.

Arunima Sinha (India's star amputee mountaineer) has successfully scaled Mount Aconcagua in Argentina. It was her 5th successful summit. Arunima started her mission on the morning of 12 December 2015 and hoisted the Indian tricolour on 25 December 2015. With this, she created World record by becoming First Female amputee to climb 5 Mountains of the World. Mt. Aconcagua (6,960.8 metres) is the highest mountain outside Asia and is also known as second Everest.
