Railway Budget 2014 - Highlights

Today Union minister Sadananda Gowda presented first Railway Budget by NDA government.

Highlights of Budget

  • Indian railway spend only 94 paisa of revenues, remaining 6 paisa is saved.
  • Gross receipts in 2013-14 was Rs 12,35,558 crore; 
  • Railway to set food courts in major stations
  • Set up CCTV cameras in every station to monitoring services and cleanliness
  • 5400+ unmanned railway crossing removed.
  • Ultrasonic system will be installed to monitor problem in tracks.
  • Bullet trains will be started on Mumbai—Ahmedabad route. 
  • IRCTC ortal to be modernized. Modern system will support 1,20,000 concurrent users
  • Diamond Quadrilateral project will be started which will connect metros with high speed trains
  • Wifi facility will be provided in A1 and A2 trains
  • 850 new coaches for Mumbai local trains
  • Direct trains on Chardham routs
  • Paperless offices to be set up within 5 years
  • 27 express trains to be introduced
  • 5 Jansadharan and 5 premium AC trains to be introduced
  • In future major projects will be financed through PPP(Public Private Partnership)
  • 17000 RPF including 4000 women constables to be recruited to ensure safety
  • To provide facility to transport milk in collaboration with Amul
  • Special tourist trains to be started to connect all major tourist spots
  • Set-up Railway University for skilled emplyees
