World Talent Ranking 2019: Highlights
  • IMD World Talent Rankings 2019 has been released by International Institute for Management Development. IMD World Talent Ranking 2019 has accessed 63 countries to determine how these countries develop, attract, and retain highly-skilled professionals.

The ranking of the countries is done on the basis on three factors-

  • Investment and development- This factor determines the investment in the home-grown talent and its development. It also checks the amount of investment in education.
  • Appeal- This factor basically determines the ability of a country to attract high skilled foreign labour fore.
  • Readiness- This factor determines the growth of the labor force and the quality of the skills available.

Global Findings-

  • According to the IMD World Talent Rankings 2019, Switzerland has topped the overall rankings with a score of 100. Switzerland has been ranked 1st on the appeal factor while 2nd on investment & development and readiness factors.
  • Switzerland is followed by Denmark on the second place with a score of 90.80. Denmark has been ranked 1st in terms of investment & development. It has been ranked 6th on the readiness factor and 11th on the appeal factor.
  • Sweden and Austria has been ranked 3rd and 4th on the ranking respectively.
  • Luxembourg has been ranked 5th in the ranking while Norway is at the 6th place.
  • Mongolia has been ranked at the bottom of the ranking with a score of 20.93.

Following are the top countries in various regions-

  • Americas- The region is topped by USA followed by Canada.
  • Western Europe- Switzerland has topped the region and Denmark is on the second place in the region.
  • Eastern Europe- Estonia has topped the Eastern Europe region. Lithuania is second in the region.
  • Eastern Asia- Hong Kong SAR is on the top place in the Eastern Asia region.
  • Southern Asia & The Pacific- This region has been topped by Singapore followed by Australia.
  • Western Asia- This region has been topped by Israel which is followed by Qatar.

India Specific Findings-

  • India has been ranked 59th out of 63 countries in the IMD World Talent Rankings 2019.
  • India has slipped 6 places this year when compared to last year. India was ranked 53rd in the 2018 rankings.
  • This decline in the ranking of India is due to negative impact of brain drain, low quality of life and the low priority of its economy on attracting and retaining talents.
  • India has performed worst in terms of Investment and Development factor and is ranked 63rd on this factor.
  • India has been ranked 57 on appeal factor.
  • India has performed well in readiness factor and has been ranked 25th on the factor.
