Exam Strategy for IBPS PO Mains - Sure Shot

Published on Tuesday, October 27, 2015
3 days for one of the most important exam for all of you. Today I am sharing few tips and exam strategy that will make an impact on your final score.
ibps po mains

Computer Awareness

This is the easiest part. Same questions are repeating in all the exams. Try to fetch 15-16 out of 20 in this section

I have shared Question bank containing previous years questions. Read this question bank. Many questions will repeat.

General Awareness

Never make lame guesses in General Awareness. Banking awareness takes a mjor pie from whole the section. RBI policies and financial updates are most important.

Download my free Banking Awareness guide to revise all the concepts. It will take you less 4 hours to the read whole ebook.

Current affairs and static GK

I regularly provide current affairs updates on BankExamsToday. Download last 6 months GK Digests from the given below links  :-
Static GK is also part of GK Digests.

Quantitative Aptitude

You will find variety of questions from various chapters. Many times students ask me to suggest "important chapters" but it's difficult to give a apt reply to this question. You will find 1-2 questions from given below chapters :-
  1. Time and work
  2. Time and distance
  3. Simple and compound interest
  4. Pipes and cisterns
  5. Partnership
  6. Boats and streams
  7. Problems based on trains
  8. Probability
  9. Permutation and combinations
  10. Number system
I find Time & Work and Time & Distance as the most important chapters. Concepts and shortcuts used in these chapters can be reapplied in many other chapters.

Data Interpretation

Data interpretation is the most time consuming part of the whole exam. Many times students waste 15-20 minutes on a single set and further they don't even fetch a single mark out of it.

There will be 3 sets(most probably) in the exam. Find the easy sets and invest your precious time on them.

Calculation speed is the decision maker in this part of the exam. I have shared maths tricks here.

I maintain Data Interpretation Guide page. Go through this page for all the questions and techniques.

English Language

Many of the students who repeatedly failing in bank exams are failing due to this section. Unlike other sections it's difficult to improve English language score within a short span of time. But I saw many students who were weak in this section but managed to crack this section. They pick easy question types and skip difficult ones.

Skip Para jumbles, error detection, theme detection questions.

Never skip Cloze test, fill in the blanks and easy reading comprehensions.

During the exam never make guesses in English section. Low accuracy is the biggest challenge in this section. If you are able to attempt just 15-16 then don't worry, try to achieve 100% accuracy. Guesses won't take you anywhere.

Before going to exam, I recommend you to revise basic Grammar here.

Reasoning Ability

This section needs a solid strategy.

Skip Puzzles if you don't have enough time. It's difficult to solve a Puzzle within 5 minutes, so I recommend you to attempt it at last.

Blood relation questions waste a lot of time. Skip them.

Easy question types
Syllogism
Inequalities
Machine input output
Series

==>> Read Reasoning shortcuts here.

Expected Cutoff

As per my rough estimation, cutoff should hover around 89-92. Read the detailed post on cutoffs here.
