PNB Local Bank Officer Recruitment 2026: 545 Vacancies
Punjab National Bank has announced the recruitment of 545 Local Bank Officers (LBO) in JMGS-I. Online registration starts on 20 July 2026 and closes on 9 August 2026. The online written examination is tentatively scheduled for August or September 2026.

Salary
The pay scale for PNB Local Bank Officer is:
₹48,480 – 2000/7 – 62,480 – 2340/2 – 67,160 – 2680/7 – 85,920
Selected candidates will also be eligible for Dearness Allowance, City Compensatory Allowance, House Rent Allowance or leased accommodation, Leave Fare Concession, medical insurance, retirement benefits and other allowances as per bank rules.
Important Conditions
- A candidate can apply for a vacancy in only one state.
- The selected state cannot be changed after submission of the application.
- Selected candidates will remain posted within the chosen state until completing nine years of service or receiving promotion to SMG Scale IV, whichever is earlier.
- Previous work experience will not be counted for seniority.
- The merit list will be prepared state-wise and category-wise.

The total number of vacancies across 17 states and union territories is 545. Vacancies are provisional and may change depending on the bank's requirements.
Nationality
The applicant must be one of the following:
- A citizen of India.
- A subject of Nepal or Bhutan.
- A Tibetan refugee who arrived in India before 1 January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India.
- A person of Indian origin who migrated from specified countries with the intention of permanently settling in India.
Candidates who require a Government of India eligibility certificate must possess it before the notification date.
Educational Qualification
Candidates must have a graduation degree in any discipline from a university or institution recognised or approved by the Government of India or its regulatory bodies.
- The candidate must possess a valid mark sheet or degree certificate on the date of registration.
- CGPA or OGPA must be converted into percentage.
- The percentage should be mentioned up to two decimal places.
- The graduation result must have been declared on or before 9 August 2026.
Local Language Proficiency
Candidates must be able to read, write and speak the specified local language of the state for which they apply.
A Local Language Proficiency Test will be conducted by an external agency. Candidates who studied the relevant language as a subject in Class 10 or Class 12 may be exempted after submitting documentary proof.
Work Experience
Candidates must have at least one year of post-qualification experience in the clerical or officer cadre of a Scheduled Commercial Bank or Regional Rural Bank.
The experience will be calculated as on 9 August 2026.
Advance Increments
- Up to two increments may be granted for prior service as an officer in a Scheduled Commercial Bank with a profile similar to a PNB Scale-I Generalist Officer.
- One increment may be granted to candidates who worked in the officer cadre of a subsidiary of a Scheduled Commercial Bank in a similar role.
Experience in other financial institutions will not be considered unless the job profile substantially matches the role of a PNB Scale-I Generalist Officer.
Age Limit
The minimum age is 20 years and the maximum age is 30 years, calculated as on 1 July 2026.

Age relaxation for SC, ST and OBC candidates can be combined with only one other eligible category such as PwBD, Ex-Servicemen or persons affected by the 1984 riots.
Selection Process
The PNB LBO selection process includes the following stages:
- Online Written Test: Five sections with sectional qualifying marks and negative marking.
- Screening: Applications and documents will be checked for eligibility.
- Local Language Proficiency Test: Applicable to candidates who did not study the relevant language in Class 10 or Class 12.
- Personal Interview: The interview carries 50 marks.
The minimum qualifying marks in the interview are 45% for SC and ST candidates and 50% for other candidates.
Final selection will be based on the combined marks obtained in the online written test and personal interview, subject to qualifying the language test and document verification.

Qualifying Marks and Negative Marking
- Minimum sectional qualifying marks are 40% for General and EWS candidates.
- Minimum sectional qualifying marks are 35% for reserved-category candidates.
- One-fourth of the marks assigned to a question will be deducted for every incorrect answer.
- Each section has a fixed time limit. Candidates cannot move between sections.

The fee must be paid online using a debit card, credit card, internet banking, IMPS, cash card, wallet or UPI. Bank transaction charges must be paid by the candidate. The application fee is non-refundable.
Service Conditions After Selection
Two-Year Probation
Selected candidates will be appointed as Local Bank Officers and placed on probation for two years.
State-Bound Posting
Selected candidates will be posted within the circles of the chosen state until completing nine years of service or receiving promotion to SMG Scale IV.
Indemnity Bond
Candidates must agree to serve the bank for at least three years. A candidate leaving before completing this period may be required to pay ₹2,00,000.
Minimum CIBIL Score
A minimum CIBIL score of 680 is required at the time of joining. Candidates without a bank account or credit history are exempt from this condition.
Medical Fitness
Appointment is subject to the candidate being declared medically fit according to the bank's requirements.
