Orator

Definition : a person who makes formal speeches in public or is good at public speaking
Usage : Churchill is supposed to be the last great orator of England.

Lull

Definition: to make someone relaxed and cal.
2) to make something, or to become, less strong
Usage: The music lulled him to sleep.

Vicinity

Definition: the area around a particular place
Usage: Police say the killer may still be in this vicinity.

Incisive

Definition: showing clear thought and good understanding of what is important, andtheability to express this Usage: She's known for her incisive mind and quick wit.

Narcotic

Definition : 1) a powerful illegal drug that affects the mind in a harmful way. heroin and cocaine are narcotics
2) a substance that relaxes you, reduces pain, or makes you sleep
Usage: He appears to be under the influence of some sort of narcotic.

Erosion

Definition: the process by which the surface of something is gradually destroyed through the action of wind, rain, etc. 2) the process of gradually destroying something or making it weaker over a period of time
Usage : Landscapers planted grass to stop the erosion of the hillside.

Fume

Definition: to be very angry about something 2) to produce smoke or fumes
Usage: She's still fuming about not being invited to the party.


Enactment

Definition: The process of passing legislation.
Usage : A cordial relationship between the government and the legislature is an essential prerequisite for the smooth enactment of a legislation

Interim

Definition: a period of time between events
Usage: He was to remain in jail in the interim

Fugitive


Definition: trying to avoid being caught 2) lasting only for a very short time
Usage : Love is as fugitive and insubstantial as smoke yet we all pursue it.

Rhetoric


Definition: language that is intended to influence people and that may not be honest or reasonable
2) the art or skill of speaking or writing formally and effectively especially as a way to persuade or influence people
Usage: The mayor's promise to fight drugs was just rhetoric since there was no money in the city budget for a drug program

Plebeian



Definition: connected with ordinary people or people of the lower social classes 2) lacking in culture or education
Usage: The patrician citizens of Roman society had more privileges than the plebeian citizens.

Pulsate

Definition: To make strong regular movements or sounds~n 2) To be full of excitement or energy
Usage: The music was so loud that they could feel the bass pulsate through the floor

Remnant


Definition: a part of something that is left after the other parts have been used, removed, destroyed, etc.
2) a small piece of cloth that is left when the rest has been sold
Usage: Remnants go on sale next week.

Plunder


Definition: to steal things from a place, especially using force during a time of war
Usage : The village was plundered by the invading army.
